This art project was commissioned by Canada's Governor General Michaëlle Jean. (You can see her on one of the photos)
The goal of the project was to create a participatory art installation to make people reflect about peace.
Our take on it was to get them to write on a piece of paper how they make peace on their everyday life. The paper was then folded by the person into an origami maple seed, a smart led with a heart beat blinking pattern was then added to the folded paper. Next the person would take it to a special air shoot ant send it up into the air all the way to the top of the Vancouver Public Library. Once the folded paper came out of the shoot it flew down like a maple seed and landed on a large net.
Over the course of the days the net got more and more populated with blinking seeds creating a large beautiful installation that would not have been possible without people's participation.
Mike Manning from our Tangible team sparked the original idea for this project. The project became a reality very quickly thanks to great collaboration of a number of people. Here are some of them in no particular order Lorien Hanson, Paul Kuranko, Elia Kirby, Rae Hull, Malcolm Levy, Dajnel van Tijn, Garrett Mace, Innes Yates.
