/letting the audience animate the lights
//story

Lighting is a huge part of the experience at a festival, but it's also often removed from the individual. We love to turn that on it's head and give the audience the ability to actively participate in the performance.
Originally created for Seasons, an electronic music festival in Vancouver, Array was built to give people a chance to take command and conduct the lights while musicians perform.
Using a control pad, one person at a time can animate the LEDs on the giant 5-faced cube. Each button on the pad lets you choose a different light animation and then the dial in centre of the pad let’s you control a filter on the selected behaviour, such as colour, speed or delay. The system also detects the music being played at the festival and the visuals that are triggered go right along with the beat. The result is an improvised-on-the-spot light show for everyone in the space.
//how it works

Array has five led panels, each with nine rings of light, arranged to create a cube that sits on the ground. In total, there are 1400 controllable LEDs covering the surface of the cube. These can all be controlled in real time through Artnet communication with our custom light control software, Cortex.
