/sculpture breathes new life into reclaimed wood
//story

For IDS West 2019, Tangible was invited to create a signature piece for the entranceway — an opportunity we were all too happy to take on. When we found out the theme for this year's show was Design DNA, we immediately thought of working with a spinning helix form but on a large scale.
To bring the project together, we worked with Etro Construction and Unbuilders. It was a dream team collaboration. Tangible came up with the design and concept, Etro took on the engineering and assembly, and Unbuilders provided the wood from a deconstructed house.
Built with century-old reclaimed Douglas fir, Helix breathes new life and function into the beauty of British Columbia timber. As you spin the 9' piece, you can imagine how the wood that once framed a home is now reborn as a sculpture — a good reminder of the longevity of materials and how we can reinvent them.
